BTW--this is free improvisation against spoken word---I recited a statement by John Howard Lawson he wrote as part of his defense against the House UnAmerican Activities Cmte.
It is part of our CD 'The Red Microphone Speaks!' (Dissident Arts, 2013). The music is a free improvisation based around prose I am reading; the prose is by John Howard Lawson, something he prepared to read at his House UnAmerican Activities Committee hearing in 1948, but was stopped by the exasperated neo-fascists who comprised the Committee before he could complete it. Lawson was a celebrated screen writer and playwright, the first president of the Writers Guild. He was also a leader of the Hollywood cultural branch of the Communist Party USA, a tireless fighter for workers' rights, racial equality, peace and a more just society.
