The piece, composed in about 2007, was inspired by the minimalistic rock of The Talking Heads in the song "Stop Making Sense", and listening to minimalistic acid-techno funk track groves from over 15-20 different local underground venues, especially the local Chicago DJ, La Spacer.
It was a virtual setup using Finale to make it sound like a real techno rock ensemble, consisting of a saxophone, pipe organ, drumset, electric bass, and electric guitar, without live musicians. Finale's ability to keep time did the rest.
Also, my influences on hearing "Piano Phase" by Steve Reich meant that the bass line was in a form of a 2-measure passacaglia in a walking bass style almost like in the style of Bach but still jazzy, and I keep some of the minimalism in the other tracks intact--especially in the drums. There is a new chord change for about 32 measures before the ending on a C-G open fifth
