EKM - A Displaced Presence

from psychedelic ambient by various artists

/

about

EKM is a new side-project from London, Ontario electronic artist, Noise Level. It features Edward Matthews (beats, loops, and keys) and his son, Kevin (beats, loops, KORG Kaosillator and Kaos Pad).
The goal of EKM is to return to darker, more textured music that was once a staple of early Noise Level demo recordings. Playing to larger and more diverse club audiences in both London and Toronto - and noticing that new listeners were responding more strongly to “the beat” - Noise Level quickly left behind its original sound in pursuit of a more rhythmic, dub-oriented vibe.
EKM’s debut release in 2012, Angels are Bestial (on Woodman Recordings), appealed to fans of Coil, Dead Voices on Air, Scanner, Brian Eno, The Caretaker and film/video soundtrack music. The music is textured, meditative, yet unsettling.
EKM’s brand new disc, A Measured Response, continues to explore similar terrain, and incorporates mangled beats, jazz noir and glitch. The disc also features “The Man Who Loved Flowers,” which is part of an original soundtrack for a locally-produced independent film of the same name.
